Back to school and headshot happy hour events!
Hey, friends!
Well…after a fairly uneventful summer break, we’re slowly slipping back into routines over here.
Our summers have always been pretty laid back and routine: pool passes and several days a week at the pool, quick road trip to Texas to visit family, trips to various ice cream shops, and we typically finish summer with a long weekend in Michigan and Warren Dunes.
This summer was different. Three of us got pool passes but we didn’t even make it to the pool enough times to pay for those passes. We did make a very quick trip to Texas and got to see a few family members but not everyone. Sadly, we didn’t make it Michigan at all…we usually make it there at least 2 times. We did hit some ice cream shops though…we aren’t complete monsters!
It feels like this is just a natural transition from having “little” kids to having tweens/teens and I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it.
Time is strange…
Anyway…back to your regularly scheduled programming.
If you’ve been thinking about scheduling that headshot…now is the time! I’ll be hosting happy hours in September and November (potentially December).
Pricing starts at $150. Details and links 👇
And…my gal Sara Jean Stevens will be back to enhance your gorgeous face*! (only 2 spots with the option to add professional makeup/hair remaining for both dates!)

(but I think you’re gorgeous!😘)
Hope to see you soon!
happy belated new year...
“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives...not looking for flaws, but for potential.”
― Ellen Goodman
Just a quick note to say thank you so much for another great year! I'm so grateful for all of my amazing clients, past and present.
I know that the new year usually brings talk of “new year, new me!” or any number of proclamations focusing on improving ourselves somehow. If that’s your thing, I will enthusiastically cheer you on! If you’re like me & have decided that resolutions aren’t your thing, I will applaud you with the same enthusiasm…and maybe we can grab a slice of pie? The point is…y’all are all great❤️
2022 Highlight Reel
…and now that we’ve established how amazing you all are, let’s talk shop (I mean…this is my business blog so I’m gonna talk about business, ya know?)!
Have you been thinking about updating your headshot? What’s holding you back from doing so? Is it nerves, lack of time/inconvenient session times, or cost? I’d love to hear your feedback!
If you’re ready to get a session on the books, I’ve got several options for the new year.
Since January's weekend headshot date seemed to be a hit, I'm opening up another weekend date for Social Media Headshots. If you missed out on the January date, you can grab a weekend session in February! I’ve also added headshot dates for March and April, including some evening hours for those who can’t make it during the day…
The Social Media sessions are short & sweet (15 minutes)! If you are uncomfortable or need time to get comfortable in front of the camera, our regular session might be a better fit.
Up to 15 minutes in the studio | One look/One location | Includes 1 low-resolution, edited digital file* | $100/150
Question: What's the difference between Social Media 1 and Social Media Plus?
I'm glad you asked!
Social Media 1 includes one file, delivered in color and Social Media Plus includes 1 file, delivered in color AND b/w. Each session will include a gallery of images in which you will choose your favorite shot!

If you’re not quite ready to book but are looking for ways to support me right now, I’d love for you to leave me a google review…these go a long way in helping clients find me! (link below)
I look forward to the year ahead and seeing you in front of my camera soon!

“What you do with your time daily is essential for spiritual and physical growth”
― Sunday Adelaja
Hi. How are you? Are you getting enough sleep? Are you eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise? Have you picked up a new hobby or language?
Yeah, I haven’t really been doing any of those things either…
In these past 35 days, I’ve had a lot of time to think. On the best days and on the worst days, my thoughts turn to those who are putting themselves and their health at risk by continuing to work. “Essential” workers who are keeping us safe, fed, healthy, etc. The list is long…it includes everyone from medical professionals to grocery store workers to janitorial staff, many of whom are low wage earners.
I think about ways that I can help. What can I do? Like many others, our income has been greatly reduced and we are struggling to tighten our budget. But we are incredibly grateful to be healthy and have a home to stay safe in.
Besides the obvious, which is staying home, I’ve made small donations to a few organizations. I’ve made purchases from local, small businesses for the occasional dinner, Easter gifts, and most importantly, coffee. Shout out to Big Guys Sausage for feeding my family, Hilary’s Soapbox for filling my kids’ Easter baskets, and Dark Matter Coffee for keeping me sufficiently caffeinated.
But…I want to do more.
I try not to jump on photo “bandwagon” ideas…Glitter sessions? Not gonna happen. Porch sessions? Nope. However, I’ve seen a couple of other photographers who came up with a plan to donate sessions to first responders and essential workers…and this is a trend that I’m happy to get behind.
So, I’m offering a limited amount of “One for One” gift card purchases. When you purchase a gift card for a future session, you can nominate an essential worker who will be given a gift card for a future session. If you don’t have someone in mind, we will happily nominate and donate a session in your name.
If you are able to purchase a gift card now, follow this link for the “One for One” offer:
One for One 1-hour Session Gift Certificate
One for One Mini Session Gift Certificate
When you make your purchase, you can include the name and email of the person you’d like to nominate in the notes section of checkout.
I can’t wait to see you all again!
Be well, friends.

what do you get when you mix wine & photos? {headshot happy hour forest park, il}
“Wine can of their wits the wise beguile, Make the sage frolic, and the serious smile”
― Homer
Last month, I partnered with Amy's Winehouse, in Forest Park, for a headshot happy hour event. It was such a fun event that I'm already scheming & planning to have another one! (Hint Hint, Amy...).
Amy was such an amazing hostess, the wine and food was delicious, and all the clients who joined us were lovely. I hope we can do another one soon!

getting to know you... {oak park headshot event}
“It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter.”
-Alfred Eisenstaedt
One of the things I love most about my job is that I meet so many people. When I'm photographing families, If I'm doing a good job, I get to see many of them on a (fairly) regular basis. The better I know my clients, the easier my job becomes.
For headshot clients, I may not see them as often. But, if I'm doing a good job, I get a LOT of referrals. A LOT. My headshot clients are quickly gaining on my family clients!
(this is me, doing a happy dance!)
I think it is important to be tuned into what my client wants & needs from me, especially regarding headshots. It's not enough to sit them in front of my lens & release the shutter a few times, I want to know how they see themselves and get a feel for their comfort level. These photographs will represent them to potential employers, clients, etc and it's important that people feel good about how their headshot looks. It's crucial that they be comfortable.
Many times, I hear "You're the professional. You tell me what to do." While this is fair to say & I do plenty of guiding, I often don't REALLY know your quirks. So many people have a "good" side...did you know that? Do you have one? Take a quick scan of your photos (selfies count) & see if there is a pattern. If so, then you fall into the "good" side group.
This isn't a bad thing. In fact, this is great info to share with your photographer! This is information I can use!
I hope that my most recent headshot clients LOVE their portraits. I am always so thankful to be trusted with such an important & intimate job.

This time around, I'm partnering with Amy's Winehouse in Forest Park, for a happy hour event. If you've never been to Amy's, you are missing out! Not only are the wine offerings delicious, but her small plates are amazing. The bacon wrapped dates are my favorite...give them a try when you stop in.
