giving partnership event
Riverside Junior Woman's Charity has been very good to me...so it makes sense to give some good back, right? (The answer is yes!)
On June 4 & 5, I will be partnering with RJWC for a weekend of micro photo sessions. All sessions will be held in Riverside, at an outdoor location near Swinging Bridge (exact location to be determined as the session date approaches).
What is a micro session? I'm glad you asked! A micro session is a quick, 15 minute session. It's a great way to get an updated portrait, without the commitment of a full photo session.
Here's the best part...fifty percent of the session profits from this event will go to Riverside Junior Woman's Charity.
Because these sessions are quick, it's important to keep them as uncomplicated as possible. Babies being photographed should be able to sit up on their own or be in a group photo with someone able to hold them or prop them up. Groups should be no larger than 5 or 6 people. Here are a few fun ideas for these sessions:
For small children, toddlers & young kids: updated portrait (alone or with siblings/cousin/friend), superhero/dress-up portrait, lovey/favorite stuffed animal portrait
For tweens & teens: updated portrait, best friends portrait, all about me portrait (what is your kid passionate about right now? skateboarding? dance? the list is endless...)
For adults/families: updated family portrait, updated couples portrait, best friend portrait

As always...here's the fine print! Sessions must be paid in full to book and hold your spot. Because this is a charitable event, the fee is non-refundable. Should you need to cancel, you can transfer your session fee to a friend or family. Please plan to arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to your session time and be dressed and ready for your portrait session. No refunds will be given for no-shows or late arrivals. In the event of a late arrival, we will do everything in our power to fit you in, if time allows. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, sessions will be rescheduled on June 11 or 12.

For those of you who saw the ad for our mother's day minis advertised in today's mom mail, our apologies. For some reason, that ad didn't run last week & appeared today, after the scheduled sessions. We do offer mini sessions as part of our regular packages & gift certificates are also available!

I'm excited to offer 2 days of photo mini sessions celebrating mamas! These sessions are not exclusive ONLY to mother's, but can extend to grandmothers, aunts, or any special person in your life that you want to celebrate on mother's day.
Each session will be 20 minutes. Sessions must be paid at the time of booking to hold your spot. The session fees include photography permit fees for Park District of Oak Park & Chicago Park District facility use.
There are 3 packages from which to choose: digital, digital plus, and deluxe.
Digital Package: password protected online proof gallery for you to choose up to 15 high resolution digital files with print release. $150
Digital Plus Package: password protected online proof gallery for you to choose up to 15 high resolution digital files with print release, 4x6 proof prints of the digital files chosen, and an 8x10 print. $175

woodland family session
I'm going to say it again, because it's worth noting...the weather was beyond amazing yesterday!
I got to photograph 2 outdoor family sessions in 2 very different locations. Both were amazing and a great reminder that my job is the BEST. It takes a lot of trust to allow someone into your world, however brief, and capture moments of your life.
For my afternoon session, we trekked into Thatcher Woods in the forest preserve. If you have never gone exploring there, you totally should! It's a great place for kids to run & climb & get really dirty! With tons of downed trees and limb "forts", it's nature's playground.
I'm just starting on edits from the weekend...but I'll share a few.

If you haven't been outside today, you should go NOW. It feels amazing. The sun is shining...all is right...
I had a morning family session that was close enough to my house, that I decided to walk. It was a lovely walk, despite carrying my gear (I hadn't really worked that into my equation).
After this morning, I've decided that 2 to 3 year olds might be my favorite age to photograph. They are fiercely independent & don't really want to do what you ask of them, but that's what is so wonderful about photographing them. They are genuine. Their smiles, or lack thereof, are true. You know exactly how they feel at any given moment. You just have to ride the wave...
Sometimes there is magic & other times...less magic. But there is always truth and that is a lovely thing.

I spent the morning with friends at the Morton Arboretum, capturing portraits in the beautiful light of the first hours of the day. It was such an early shoot, that Milo got to tag along with me! I don't normally recommend taking your 3 year old to work, but we had a lot of fun & since I was working on a Mother's Day portrait, it sort of made sense.
I have a lot of editing to do, but when I came across this image, I just wanted to share it. It is almost exactly the image I saw in my head when I was thinking about this shoot.

I was lucky enough to spend my morning in Riverside, photographing an adorable family and their newest addition. Baby brother turned 2 weeks old today and he did a great job! I'm sharing a few images here...look how proud big sister is!
We heart April
Even though April has just begun, my brain keeps jumping to May...
Maybe it's wishful thinking (we don't usually have sleet & snow in May) or maybe it's because the April session calendar is almost full and May bookings are in full swing! You've been cooped up too long and they are ready to be out & about. I feel ya!

a warm & windy family shoot
Yesterday, we had sleet and snow.
Today, it was warm, sunny and incredibly windy.
When you spend a lot of time photographing outdoors, you just have to go with it...make it work.

I've had a few outdoor shoots in March and while I wouldn't say they were very Spring-like, they were tolerable! My April calendar is quite packed, but I still have a few session spaces available. Yesterday morning, as I was working on my first cup of coffee & responding to work emails, my computer pinged to let me know that I had a Facebook notification. Since I love (and need) a little distraction from time to time, I toggled on over to check it out. To my surprise, I found a message from a high school friend that I probably haven't seen since high school...which was a while ago...
It was nice message & a reminder that I'm doing what I am meant to do. There was a time when I thought that I might want to teach photography, but life took me in a different direction. While I did & do enjoy helping others develop an understanding & love of photography, I think there are people better suited for that. I've met many of them & they do an amazing job.
Do your thing, now is the time...
Here's the nice message I woke up to:
"HI Joey Wood Tesch, I woke up this morning having reflections of Photography classes with Mrs. Story, I loved that class, although I could never roll my own film, lol, and that's where YOU came in, thank you so much for helping me get through photography class, I was going through some old high school pictures I save from that class, and their are some great ones, you took a few of me that are awesome too lol, but I was thinking of you while I was doing all that, so have a great day and again, thank you so much for rolling my film!"

and it felt a lot like winter...
I had an early morning family shoot at Millennium Park and despite the temps being below 40, everyone was cheerful & ready to go! The family of 4 (almost 5) powered through and I had a great time using the park as my backdrop.

Spring...at last!
In the midwest, these are the days that make the long winter worth the hassle. After months of piling on multiple layers and shoveling sidewalks, we look forward to a little rain, the resurgence of a green landscape, and getting outside. Spring is here...finally!
To usher in the change of seasons, we are looking forward to a weekend of mini photo sessions. Our mini sessions are 30 minutes and include 10-15 edited, high resolution image files with a print release for personal use. To sweeten our Spring promotion, we are including an 8x10 print of your choosing. That's a $50 savings!
